Boy Attends School Via Webcam – Iris Hughey

Seven-year-old Devon Carrow has food allergies so bad, just sitting in the same room with a kid who ate peanut butter at lunch could kill him. This is why he can’t leave the house for long, let alone attend a school. But thanks to the technology of today, he actually can! He sits in his classroom, runs errands for his teacher and even participates in group projects all thanks to a $6,000 robot from Nashua, N.H. –based VGo Commnuications. “We try to give the child the ability to feel like they’re right in class with everybody else,” Tom Ryder, co-foiunder of VGo Communications, told Yahoo! Shine. “You can be pretty much anywhere in the world, as long as you’re connected to the internet,” he concluded.

On the Monday of September 10, Chicago public school teachers went on strike.  The Chicago Teacher's Union and the city's mayor, Rahm Emanuel, disagree about teachers' pay, teaching conditions and teacher benefits.  To protest the unfair conditions, the teachers dressed in red, and marched outside of schools in the city.  The strike was the first in 25 years in Chicago and it revealed a rift between unions and Mr. Emanuel. Negotiations continued late Monday night between Chicago Public Schools officials and leaders of the Chicago Teachers Union.  An official said that both sided need a night to digest the latest proposals.  Obama's input is that his principal concern is for the students and families who are affected by the situation.  He also hopes that both sides are able to come together to settle this issue for the sake of Chicago's students.
